The Foreign Legal Assistance Act (FLA) (28 U.S.C. § 1782) is a U.S. federal statute that allows judges in the United States to discretionarily grant access discovery procedures to foreign litigants and other “interested persons” in legal proceedings abroad. Human rights and corporate accountability practitioners can use the FLA to access evidence in support of proceedings outside the United States.
